Little Update

I’ve ventured back to this prolific blog, or maybe it’s because writer’s block is starting to dissipate. So far adjusting to Kenya has been a mixed process. The lack of amenities and infrastructure haven’t been too difficult to get used to since I’ve done enough third world travel. It’s not to say that I don’t prefer these amenities, but it’s amazing how quickly the human mind can adjust to new circumstances, even bucket showers and pooping into a hole in the ground.

Adjusting and navigating through local customs is something else entirely. Most of the people that live here in Kibwezi belong to the Akamba tribe and understanding them has become a very twisted jigsaw puzzle. They seem to defy any logical explanation. Some people here are amazing, some are pathetic, and many are corrupt. The ones that you think you can trust are the ones you should be most weary of. Kambas are infamous in Kenya for their witchcraft and superstitions, so things really are never what they seem.
